Health
Care
This is the area I am most passionate
as I have been in the health care industry for years and have seen first
hand how the current programs work both for and against us. It is my
goal to use my experience to the advantage of the state of Minnesota
and further develop a health care program which makes sense far into
the future.
Specifically,
I believe that while we pride ourselves in the large number of residents
who are insured, we must review the costs and ensure they are appropriate.
Competition is one of the primary elements to keeping costs reasonable
and fair; let's use this method with health care just as we use it with
other commerce. People should have their choice of plan, doctor, and
pharmacist and have consumer tools available to them such as: health savings
accounts, cafeteria plans, tax credits, vouchers, etc.
There are many in need
who have no safety net or 'fallback' option; I believe we must create such
a safety net for people in real need. Free markets work best and health
care is no exception; let's give the markets an opportunity to work.
Government
is here to help American citizens. One of the best things government can
do to help is to loosen tax and regulatory policies that drive up costs.
I believe in health care and the right for everyone to have access to
health care; government must be conscious of costs and help promote
a competitive environment.
Taxes
I value the quality
of life we are able to afford both in Minnesota and the USA and am happy
to pay reasonable taxes to maintain this quality of life; the rate we
are taxed at today more than affords us a quality life. Minnesotans incur
some of the highest taxes in the nation in the areas of sales, property,
and small business taxes.
The economic health of our state is dependent
on the success of small businesses. It is imperative that we provide
an environment to give small businesses the best chance to thrive. The
current tax rates are not conducive to this ever important business growth.
I
do not support any new taxes and will work to eliminate any hidden fees.
Education
I am proud to be a mother and value
the education my children were able to garner in the state of Minnesota.
I believe education is part of the foundation of all children.
The funding
education is granted needs to be based on performance. Accountability
is one of the key elements we teach our children and it seems to reason
that accountability should transcend to the funding of our schools as
well.
I will work to ensure that our schools are funded
at an appropriate level, commensurate with performance and outcomes.
Morals
I am a republican
who believes truth, ethics, integrity, religious and family values must
permeate our lives. I respect others regardless of race, sex, or sexual
preference. Abortion is a tragic choice that must be avoided through
education and support of faith and family; late term or partial birth
abortions should be banned.
